Bassvictim don’t open “White Flag” so much as lower you into it. Maria Manow’s vocal arrives hushed, almost private, over electronics that feel like they’re holding their breath — and then the track detonates. Distorted synths, a hammer-skitter dancefloor tantrum, a chorus that treats surrender not as giving up but as a weapon. It’s electroclash with its teeth out, club pop that remembers the club is supposed to be a little bit dangerous.

The London duo — Manow and Ike Clateman — announced their nineteen-track album PEACE + WAR, out November 6, alongside “White Flag,” and the single lives right in the contradiction: a white flag waved like a threat. Stereogum ranked it the second-best song of its week, and it’s easy to hear why — there’s not a wasted second in it, every sound placed to make the next one hit harder.

Bassvictim are currently out on a North American headline tour, playing two Halloween shows in New York, and “White Flag” sounds like it was built for exactly that room: dark, loud, communal, a little bit feral. It’s the kind of single that makes an album announcement feel like an event rather than a press release. November 6 can’t come fast enough.

What also sets Bassvictim apart is how deliberately they build their world. Their debut album Forever arrived in 2025, followed by the question-mark EP earlier this year, and PEACE + WAR is their second full-length of 2026 — nineteen tracks that, on the evidence of this single, will lean even further into the dancefloor without losing the vulnerability that made Manow’s writing stand out in the first place. Press descriptions keep landing on the same pairing — her gleeful, mangled vocals against Clateman’s bruising electronic production — and White Flag is that pairing at its sharpest. The band close their North American tour with two New York shows on Halloween night, then head to London’s Troxy for the album release on November 6. If the rest of the record hits like this, that room is going to be loud.
